Police: 15th Incident in Assault Series Reported

Fairfax County Police say groping incident may be the work of a copycat.

UPDATE (Jan. 14, 10:33 a.m.)

According to FCPD, detectives investigating the series of assault believe the recent incident is the same suspect involved in 14 assaults previously reported in the Springfield area.

A groping incident that occurred around 5:45 p.m. Thursday may be the work of a copycat, according to the Public Information Office.

According to FCPD, a 30-year-old woman was jogging in the 3300 block of Briarwood Court when a man grabbed her, reported WUSA. She screamed and the man ran away. The suspect is described as either a white or Hispanic male between the ages of 25 and 30 years old and about 5'7".

At the time of the incident, the suspect was wearing a green jacket, dark pants and dark shoes. Police believe because of the location of the recent incident — in the West Springfield area — it may not be related to 14 other groping incidents reported in Springfield in the past few months.
