In a 73-22 blowout win at home against the Falls Church Jaguars on Friday night, all but one Edison player put points on the board with four going into double-digits.
It seemed that nothing was going to go right for the Jaguars from the beginning. Outscored 40-14 at the end of the first half, the Falls Church girls only managed two points in both the second and fourth quarters.
Behind 17 points from Ruth Sherrill, the Eagles cruised through three quarters of basketball, only seeming to have trouble with a slow start in the first. Outmatched inside, the Jaguars continued to drive to the basket in an attempt to draw fouls. They ended up having their most success at the free throw line.
In the end, a sea of turnovers and wasted chances doomed the Falls Church girls. Strong performances from Kierra Graham and Christine Dua (each with 14 points), sealed a convincing home win for Edison.
“This was a big win,” Edison Coach Dianne Lewis said. “We've been working on defense and transition and I think we did well on both.”
