Edison Grabs Twelfth Win Of the Year, Defeats Hayfield 47-37
Krystyna Watts scores a career-high 18 points in Edison's double-digit victory
The Edison Eagles (12-2) defeated the Hayfield Hawks (6-9) 47-37 Friday evening at Edison High in front of a packed Eagle's nest gym. Edison, one of the region’s hottest teams, notched their 12th victory of the season. Meanwhile, Hayfield has gone 2-2 in their last four games.
In front of a standing room only crowd, the two teams played each other extremely close in the game’s first three quarters. The Hawks’ defense did an outstanding job holding Edison’s leading scorer, Ruth Sherrill, to a season-low 3 points. Hayfield briefly took the lead in the third quarter, but Edison would regain it shortly thereafter, en route to the victory.
Krystyna Watts turned in an impressive performance for the Eagles, hitting four three-pointers as she scored a career-high 18 points.
“Our guards played extremely well. Despite the fact that our bigs got into foul trouble early and had to sit, overall, it went pretty well,” said Edison head coach Diane Lewis following the team’s victory.
Edison will host cross-town rival Mt. Vernon in a double-header next Tuesday as the team seeks to win their eighth consecutive game.
Hayfield will try to turn things around next week as they begin a two-game road trip starting at Falls Church next Tuesday.
