The third annual Jack T. Farrar Jr. "Fill the Shoes" 5K race drew more than 250 registrants to Hayfield Park early Saturday morning, raising thousands for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PANCAN).

The race started and finished at Hayfield Park, running along Broadmoor Street, Glamis Drive, Kingsbury Road, Helmsdale Lane and Telegraph Road. 

Amanda Farrar, Jack's daughter and a longtime runner, founded and co-directed the race after her father died of pancreatic cancer in 2005. The Farrar family lived in the neighborhood for decades. 

The race has raised more than $5,000 in each of its first two years and may raise more than that this year. All net proceeds go to PANCAN. (Kingstowne Striders are still accepting donations here through the end of November.)

Kevin Shaw co-directed the race, and Reston Runners provided finish line services. Sponsors included a number of local businesses from the Kingstowne, Franconia and Rose Hill area.
