Is December 21, 2012 the End of the World? NASA Says No
Find out what the experts are saying about the Dec. 21, 2012, Doomsday prophesies, the end of the Mayan calendar and their potential impact on the entire world.
Don’t make any rash decisions: Experts say 12/21/12 is going to be just another typical winter solstice.
Killer solar flares aren’t expected. Another planet isn’t on a collision course with ours. And the Mayan “long count calendar” ending on this date has no real significance — they had to end it somewhere!
What is All the Fuss About?
There are a number of theories and predictions that call for earth’s demise on Dec. 21, 2012. They include:
- The ending of the Mayan calendar. The Mayans, according to a Sarasota, Fla. Patch article, kept three separate calendars. The “long calendar” ends on Dec. 21. Some say this constitutes a Doomsday prediction; many do not.
- Nostradamus. That famed French seer from the 1500s has been credited with predicting several end-of-the-world scenarios that some believe will take place in 2012. The website December212012.com points to the potential sparking of World War III on this date.
- The collision of Earth and the supposed planet Nibiru. This supposed space catastrophe was initially predicted to strike back in 2003. The planet in question was supposedly discovered by the Sumerians, according to NASA. When the world didn’t end in 2003, the date was moved to December 2012 for the deadly collision with earth.
What are the Experts Saying?
The intrigue created by multiple end-of-the-world predictions has made some scholars and even NASA stand up to make statements debunking the claims. And they’re all saying the same thing: Go ahead and pay that mortgage bill and wrap those holiday presents.
Here’s what NASA has to say about all of the collective Doomsday prophesies:
The world will not end in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.
What do you think? Is the world coming to an end in a few days, or are you making sure those bill payments go out on time? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Unless someone at NASA is clairvoyant, they can't say "the world will not end in 2012." However unlikely, it is possible the world could end for reasons independent of the three theories mentioned here.

The end... If you go read the Bible, God says that NO ONE will know when it will happen... So not even NASA and all their technology will know when... There will be predictions, but never a final date... there's always the word MAYBE but never defenately!

Even if it true NASA won't say that the world will end Dec 21 2012. Because they don't want to make the people to get fear just like in titanic film at the end of time the musicians sang a song... However the world won't be end.. Still kaliyuga is there... Tamil calander is most well known and very oldest calendar In this world. Because this was predicted from when the human being was start to live in this world...never believe that non sense rumor.. Still human beings alive for more than 7000 years... Please try to understand that the world will definitely end when the Tamil calender ends... Enjoy yourself and try to be live as a human being...

Humans have been predicting the end of the world since the beginning of the world and so far there is only one prediction that makes any sense. The world will likely come to an end at the end of the life of the sun (in about 5 billion years) as it expands into a red giant, sheds its outer shell and then slowly shrinks to a white dwarf.
Will I worry about it? Not much.

Humans killing humans, including mothers killing their children, is nothing new and has been going on since the beginning of the species. As I said above, I won't worry much about the end of the world. The end of the human species, which is bent on self destruction, is much more worrisome.

Like was mentioned, the world COMPLETELY ending we will not know. But as far as very soon this world going to basically cave in on itself is true. Look around you people and all the record breaking storms recently, all the deaths worldwide tolling up and all the devastation you have been seeing past 5 years. LOOK at what is going on in our government and the possibility of a WW3 in our near, i will say VERY near future. No people the world will not completely end, but please do not get to comfortable and do prepare for alot more devastation, freak storms,a new war and the soon to be loss of humanity. Sad but true, We are our own biggest enemy, so start fearing what you see around you and look down at your hands and see what we have been doing to this world and ourselves, in the end it is all our fault anyways. When we have quite frankly about killed 1 another off and almost completely destroyed our world and everything in it is when the world will end. When that may happen is all up to us. :)

Take a look around. The world didn't end. No major catastrophes even. Just a beautiful blue sky with white puffy clouds, followed by some light snow flurries. Have a great Christmas and a wonderful new new year.
