Construction will begin on the long-awaited Kingstowne Wegmans on April 2, the Washington Business Journal reports.
While construction began on the Hilltop Village Center site in January, no construction has occurred so far on the future 140,000 square-foot Wegmans that will anchor Hilltop Village.
"Wegmans builds its owns stores at its own pace," writes Business Journal reporter Michael Neibauer. Wegmans is expected to open in early 2014.
Last year, the site, located near Beulah Street and Telegraph Road, was purchased by Texas investment group Weingarten Realty. When the supermarket is built, it could raise property values in surrounding neighborhoods.

I can't afford to shop there. Wegmans has huge overhead expenses and those costs are passed on to consumers.

Not true at all... I shop at Wegmans, Giant and Safeway; and Wegmans is very competitive with them, if not cheaper.

Don, you should actually try shopping there so that you can speak accurately. The staple items and meats are actually cheaper at the Woodbridge store than at Giant or Safeway.

Would be great to have Wegman's and a shopping center with other stores in that location. I've been hearing for years that they were going to build there. Unfortunately, a little late for me, I work at Ft. Belvoir and would be only minutes away from the store, but I am retiring next year, and live in Annandale. It's a little far to drive just to buy groceries. Would have been a great place to go and have lunch and shop during my lunch hour. Well, guess I will have to visit there after I retire, but wish the store were be open now.
