Seventy-two students from 22 Fairfax County Public Schools recently earned a total of 113 regional awards in the 2013 Scholastic Writing Awards competition, according to a recent news release.
The competition was sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers and administered locally by Writopia Lab.

Of the FCPS winning entries, 13 received Gold Key awards, 39 received Silver Key Awards, and 61 received Honorable Mentions for outstanding work in dramatic scripts, flash fiction, humor, journalism, personal essays-memoirs, persuasive writing, poetry, short stories, science fiction-fantasy and writing portfolios.
There will be a reading for regional winners at Barnes and Noble D.C., from noon to 6 p.m. March 3. Regional winners will be recognized from 7 to 8:30 p.m. March 19, at the Rosslyn Spectrum Theater in Arlington.
