The Kingstowne movie theater is closed Monday due to the rain and wind associated with Hurricane Sandy.
Several retailers and restaurants were open on Monday ahead of the worst of the storm.
Power trucks from Pike Electric Solutions await at the Comfort Inn and Suites on Van Dorn Street, ahead of the storm. Dominion Virginia Power anticipates many power outages across Northern Virginia.

As schools close and public transit stops service, residents in Kingstowne are hunkering down to prepare for Hurricane Sandy and stay safe as the storm makes its way throughout the Northern Virginia region.

Monday morning, rain and wind were picking up but some retailers were open in Kingstowne while others closed their doors.

Among those open were Yates Sunoco in Kingstowne. An employee told Patch the station plans to stay open "until the power goes out." The service center is open until 7 p.m.

Also open, as of 11:30 a.m. Monday:

Aditi Indian Dining, the ABC Liquor Store, East Moon Asian Bistro and Johnny Rockets.

The Regal Kingstowne Stadium 16 was closed Monday.
