Police have released a sketch of a suspect who has grabbed women and fondled them in the Springfield area in incidents that began Sept. 7. The latest incident occurred Tuesday. Police are investigating whether the incidents might be linked.
A fifth victim, a 40-year-old woman, has now come forward — Fairfax County Police detectives say the the fondling incident took place on Wednesday, Sept. 19, also in Springfield.
The 40-year-old woman reported that she was walking along Hibbling Avenue near Exmore Street, the same area where this week's incident took place, when she heard someone behind her, according to a news release from Fairfax County Police. As she turned to see why he didn’t pass, he grabbed and groped her as she struggled free. The suspect then fled.
The woman described the suspect as a Hispanic man, in his 30s, 5-foot-8, with dark eyes and a neatly trimmed beard. She said he was wearing a black and white bandana with designs on it, black nylon pants with two blue stripes down the sides, a blue long-sleeved shirt and black shoes.
Detectives said that there may be additional victims and incidents that have gone unreported and urge women to contact police if they have encountered this suspect.
