Police Report: Robbery, Fatal Crash in Kingstowne
Man robbed for cell phone in Manchester Lakes.
Every week, the Franconia District Police Station releases a report of the major incidents that occur in the district, which includes the greater Rose Hill area, from the previous week. Here are the incidents that occurred from Jan. 25, 2012 to Feb. 1, 2012. Keep in mind that these are reported incidents. A crime did not necessarily occur.
Fatal Crash
On Sunday, Jane. 29 around 1:15 p.m., police responded to a crash on Kingstowne Boulevard. A 25-year-old man was driving a 2011 Ford Mustang northbound on Kingstowne Boulevard. A 77-year-old man was driving a 1994 Toyota Camry southbound on Kingstowne Boulevard. As both vehicles approached the intersection with Kingstowne Village Parkway, the 77-year-old driver attempted to turn left from Kingstowne Boulevard onto Kingstowne Village Parkway and was struck on the passenger side by the 25-year-old driver.
Diana Merediz, 71, of 3021 Cunningham Drive in the Alexandria area, who was a passenger in the Toyota Camry, died at the scene. The 77-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and the 25-year-old driver was transported to a local hospital with non life-threatening injuries. An investigation by Crash Reconstruction Detectives continues. Speed is considered a factor in the crash but alcohol is not.
Robbery
A 53-year-old man was robbed around 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1 in the area of Manchester Boulevard and Manchester Lakes. The victim was using his cell phone when two other men approached him. One suspect displayed a knife and the other demanded the victim’s cell phone. The victim complied and the suspects fled. The victim did not require medical treatment. The first suspect was described as Hispanic, about 20 years old. The second suspect was black, about 30 years old.
Larcenies
A license plate was stolen from a vehicle on the 6300 block of Grovedale Drive.
Cash was stolen from a business on the 7000 block of Machester Boulevard.
