Mitt Romney hastily called a press conference today to apologize personally to the “150 million starving, filthy beggars [he] might have offended.”

Romney personally appealed to the country’s “dirt-caked garbage pickers and toothless street urchins” for forgiveness.

“First and foremost, I would like to offer a heartfelt apology to all the whores, junkies, bums, and grime-covered derelicts out there who make up nearly half our nation,” a visibly contrite and solemn Romney said outside a campaign stop at a local high school. “Let me assure you that I in no way meant to offend any of the putrid-smelling, barefoot masses out there. My campaign is not about dividing this nation, but about bringing all sides together—the rich, elegant members of the upper class, as well as the 47 percent who are covered in flies and eat directly from back-alley dumpsters.”

“I am fully committed to building a better future for every American,” Romney continued, “and that means ensuring all 150 million grease-and-urine-soaked members of our society get a fair shake.”

The Romney campaign reportedly scrambled into damage-control mode after the video leaked Monday, issuing a statement late last night stating that the intended target of Romney’s remarks was ingrained big-government largesse, not the “hordes of uneducated, loathsome scum who unfortunately populate this country.”

A very generous Patch writeup on Romney's statement of contempt for 47% of the American peoPle! He also said he wouldn't be able to get them "to take personal responsibility or take care of themselves.". That is raw contempt for what Romney sees as moochers vs himself as a maker.
By the way, in Romney's 47% of the people not paying Federal income tax are the full time college students living on student loans, disabled veterans who fought for guys like Romney, seniors living on Social Security, and people working full time minimum wage jobs, etc. And they are all Paying other forms of federal, state, and local taxes.

If Patch is now going to delve into Presidential politics, let's hope in the future it will be a bit more thorough and certainly more balanced than today's piece.

Governor Romney wasn't lying, and it is a shocking yet readily verifiable fact regarding the nearly half of our fellow countrymen who fail to contribute to federal income taxes. The top bracket of earners pay a vast majority of taxes, while the lower bracket pays barely anything. I'm middle class myself, with a family that has a long history of public service (Consisting of teachers, military personnel, firefighters, police officers, public works/utilities (ie, Water authority, power, and so forth), etc.), and I find it highly insulting that so much of this country can exist within a welfare utopia, while everyone else works the burden off. We all know where a welfare state leads, just ask Soviet Russia... Oh, wait.

I don't know about other folks in the area, but I am sick of 'gotcha' politics. Soon we will not have good candidates who are willing to run for office because they don't want to face going through the wringer where every move you make and every word you say is caught on tape and later exploited. We should be talking about the major issues such as jobs and foreign policy. Would YOU be willing to run for public office in this toxic environment?

When I hear the Obama administration apologize for the "bitter-clinger" remark given to a room of private donors then I'll worry about Romney. Have yet to figure out why the media totally gives the president a pass on his attack on those who believe in the 1st and 2nd amendments. Lordy, please read the tax codes and ponder WHY 47% pay no taxes! Could it be that the 1% have horded too much wealth for the poorer 1/2 to be ABLE to pay INCOME taxes. And drop the crap that the 1% create the jobs. They do not. People like Romney are the worst patriots ever, destroying companies just to make a freaking buck. What kind of morality is there in that??? Or is the Golden Rule out of favor with Mitt's conservative base? No need to answer.

Second of all, the Romney video is newsy because it was the news of the day yesterday - with reaction to it leading on all cable and network news programming, and in all newspapers, taking it far, far beyond regular campaign dispatches. Third of all, it is news because people in Reston are talking about it and they vote.
