St. Patrick's Day Specials in Kingstowne

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day by checking out local restaurants and bars for holiday specials.

St. Patrick's Day is Sunday and, of Irish descent or not, a lot of people will be wearing green and finding themselves in front of an alcoholic beverage — with or without the green food coloring.

According to History.com, St. Patrick's Day is celebrated March 17 for the religious saint's feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. People of the Irish culture have observed this day as a religious holiday for more than 1,000 years.

St. Patrick's Day falls during the Christian season of Lent, and traditionally, Irish families would go to church in the morning and celebrate in the evening. Lenten prohibitions of eating meat were waived for the day, and people would dance, drink and feast on an Irish meal of bacon and cabbage.

Restaurants and bars in the Kingstowne area will "loosely" keep up this tradition this weekend by opening earlier and serving Irish-inspired meals and drinks. Here's where to go for St. Patrick's Day specials in Kingstowne:

  • Lucky's - The sports bar will open at 6 a.m. Saturday for "Super St. Paddy's Saturday." The bar will show the Washington Capital's game at 1 p.m. and a UFC fight later in the afternoon. They will also serve an Irish-inspired breakfast when they open at 10 a.m. Sunday.
  • The Bungalow -  The popular hot spot will offer "kegs and eggs" for St. Paddy's weekend. They will have normal hours Saturday but will open at 8 a.m. Sunday when they'll offer a breakfast special. They'll also have different shot specials available.
  • King Street Blues - The restaurant and bar will have food specials on fish 'n' chips and will also offer Shepherd's Pie this weekend. They'll have a special on drinks including the "Shamrock Shooter" at the bar, and Irish music will play throughout the restaurant. King Street Blues will keep regular hours throughout the holiday weekend.
