Is law enforcement really using aircraft to monitor your speed on the highway, as the signs, including one on I-395 near Landmark Mall, warn? It's not likely, reports the Washington Examiner. 

The Virginia State Police haven't deployed their speeder-catching aircraft in Northern Virginia at all in the past three years, and only used them once in the entire Commonwealth in 2011, according to the Examiner. Operating the aircraft costs $150 an hour, not counting overtime costs for personnel, the VSP told the Examiner.

But don't think the lack of an eye in sky is a reason to speed. Speed has been responsible for crashes at some of Kingstowne's most dangerous intersections.
