Visions for Vacancies: The Old Borders

What should be next for this location at 6701 Frontier Drive?

The former site of the Springfield Borders at 6701 Frontier Drive has sat vacant since the bookstore closed last summer following Borders' bankruptcy.

What would you like to see replace it?

The location, in the Springfield Commons strip mall, is next to other large stores like Old Navy, Staples and Party City.  It's connected by a parking lot to Home Depot and smaller stores like Dunkin' Donuts, Alfred Angelo Bridal and the now-empty Penn Camera store, which closed after its own corporate bankruptcy.

What do you think should take the Borders' place and provide what Springfield and surrounding areas have been missing? Tell us in the comments.

A restaurant would be great but the traffic at that location is awful.

It's hard to say what should go in there. As Matt F. said, the traffic/parking situation at that mall is HORRIBLE. I think a gym is probably a good idea though. There is already another bookstore in the immediate area, and most of the other retail sectors are represented.

A great seafood restaurant with a fun bar would be a nice addition to the area, maybe something by the Great American Restaurant group ( the people behind Mike's American Grill, Coastal Flats, Artie's, Carlyle) or a Legal Seafood. If not seafood maybe something like a (Uncle Julio's) Rio Grande or Guapos. Or, this may be a bit of a long shot but how bout a Jaleo?? Would be fantastic to have anything by Jose Andres out here...it is a prime location with the metro just down the block. Parking is plentiful b/c of the garage b/t the Home Depot and the Boarders location but traffic can be annoying, maybe they can put some kind of entry/exit down on the other side of TGIFridays.

I just heard that Models is moving from the soon to be closed mall into the old Borders location.
