Where to Play Golf In and Around Kingstowne

Facilities abound for golfers and those who want to learn to play golf.

With blue skies, comfortable temperatures and lush greenery everywhere you look this time of year, it's tempting to want to get out and swing a golf club.

You don't have to go far if you live in Kingstowne, where there are plenty of options for pros to beginners.

TopGolf: Located at 6625 S. Van Dorn St., in Kingstowne, Top Golf is a great place to meet up with friends for drinks, dinner (guacamole, wings, sliders, salads, desserts) and...oh yeah, perfect your golf swing. Golf bays are heated on chilly days/nights and golf balls are micro-chipped to help you analyze your golf game. Each bay seats up to a party of six and you can drink and dine in the bay while you take turns hitting balls.

Greendale Golf Course, located at 6700 Telegraph Road, the course opened in 1973 and is managed by the Fairfax County Park Authority. The 18-hole course has a fully stocked clubhouse and snackbar. Greens fees are $26 during "prime time," which is Friday to Sunday and holidays, to play nine holes of golf. During "non-prime time," it costs $21. Discounts are available for older players, younger players and if you buy multiple rounds of golf at one time.

Fees: Greendale charges a separate fee for a golf cart ($11 for nine holes). You can also rent a pull-cart for $4.50, and rent golf clubs for $18 for nine holes.

Programs for kids, seniors and women golfers: Greendale participates in a Junior Golf League program for children ages 8 to 17 to help them learn the game. Click here for more information. Greendale also offers a program for seniors, Greendale Seniors Golf Club and a program for women, Greendale Women's Golf Association.

Instructor Jim Loftus is available for lessons, which can be purchased in several packages, either one-on-one instruction or up to three people.

Hilltop Golf Club, located at 7900 Telegraph Road, opened in 2003. The property has been in the Gailliot family since 1917. It has a nine-hole golf course, lighted driving range (68 bays, including 20 that are covered and heated), practice green. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m., opening at 7:30 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Rates vary depending on time of week/day; discounts are available for seniors, military, "ladies' day," and students.

The club offers Junior Camps for ages 6 to 11 and ages 12 to 15. For more information call (703) 719-6504.

The Fort Belvoir Golf Club, located on the base at 8450 Beulah Street Building, offers two 18-hole courses, a dining room (that offers a lunch buffet) and a pro shop.

Fort Belvoir Golf Club is not a “private” club, for “members” only. The golf club belongs to and is open to all active duty and retired military, all currently employed and retired DoD civilian employees, and everyone working on Post or visiting Fort Belvoir.
