Drive Safely Work Week is Oct 1-5

It’s likely the time you spend driving—as part of your job or to and from work—is the most dangerous part of your day. That's why the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce will be observing Drive Safely Work Week October 1-5. Drive Safely Work Week is the annual safe-driving campaign sponsored by the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS.)

This year’s campaign theme is Back to Basics—Your keys to safe driving. As automakers continue to add technology and features to vehicles—some that enhance safety and others that may add distractions—many drivers are tempted to multi-task behind the wheel. I think this year’s campaign will help us refocus on the basics of responsible, safe driving.

Many of us think we learned all the basics in driver training and that our years of experience have made us safe drivers. But according to NETS, even employees who drive as a part of their jobs should receive continual training and information provided by their employers to help reinforce the fundamental skills needed to be a safe driver. Drive Safely Work Week is a way to share safe-driving information with all employees—whether we drive for work or as a commuter.

Drive Safely Work Week offers materials to share with employees, family members and friends. And, if you have teens who are or will soon be learning to drive, this year’s Back to Basics materials are ideal for use as you coach your new or up-and-coming drivers.

Safe travels.
