'Love Your Show Babe:' Jack Diamond Exits MIX 107.3 FM

After 20 years on WRQX, the station pulls the plug on popular morning radio program.

For those who listen to Mix-107.3 FM, "Love your show babe," was the signature sign-off for morning show host Jack Diamond and it was also how listeners signed off when calling in to the show. Loyal listeners may have noticed that Diamond was missing in the mornings the past two weeks, replaced temporarily by various hosts. But Diamond's not on vacation — he's off the station for good, according to the station. Two weeks ago, the Washington DC radio station WRQX-FM, owned by Cumulus Media, deleted all references to the popular longtime radio host on its Web site and loyal listeners unknowingly heard the last morning show by Diamond after 22 years on the radio station.  Will you listen to the new syndicated show taking its place? Take our …

I have listened to JD for 20+ years. He is a DC Metro area institution. He is from here and loves this town. That is why everyone enjoyed his show so much - he was one of us. I am so mad about how this was mishandled that I will never listen to Mix 107.3 again. The Bert show's immature garbage sounds like it would appeal to teenagers, and since they are in school in the am I presume that the new …   more ›

Fairfax County Jobs Report: 1,400 New Jobs in 2013

Fairfax County Economic Development Authority officials say despite high number, sequestration will cause job growth to slow down.

The Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) helped bring more than 1,400 jobs from 27 different companies during the first quarter of 2013. Salient Federal Solutions, a company that provides information techonology support to government and commercial customers, created the most opportunity countywide, adding 530 jobs in Fairfax, FCEDA officials said Friday.  “In today’s environment, any business growth is remarkable,” FCEDA President and CEO Jerry Gordon said in a statement. But the number of new jobs was still down from the first quarter of 2012, when the FCEDA worked with 46 different businesses to bring in nearly 2,000 jobs. Gordon told Patch the slowdown was caused by cold feet from business owners, who hesitated to grow…

Office Building in Kingstowne Still Without Confirmed Leases

Construction on the building will be completed next month.

Construction on the office building next to Kohl's in Kingstowne is nearing completion, but as of Tuesday Jones Lang LaSalle hasn't confirmed any leases for the space. Broker David Stoudt said the marble tiles for the lobby area have been received and the building should be ready by June. Stoudt said businesses have shown some interest in the space but no leases have been signed. Previously, Stoudt told Patch the questions surrounding sequestration and the Northern Virginia economy could be the reason prospective tenants have not yet confirmed leases. In June, Jones Lang LaSalle will begin hosting broker events to drum up more interest in the space. The office building is 113,500 sq. ft. and is owned by the Halle Companies, which also owns…

Vornado Expected to Spend $225 Million on Springfield Mall Renovations by Middle of Next Year

The company released its quarterly earnings report Monday.

Between Jan. 1 and March 31, Vornado Realty Trust spent $8.8 million on the Springfield Mall renovation, which is more than the company has spent on any other projects in its pipeline, according to the Washington Business Journal. The transformation of the Springfield Mall into the Springfield Town Center is expected to cost Vornado $225 million by the middle of 2014. When completed, the new town center will be 1.3 million sq. ft., accessible to about 800,000 people with an estimated household income of more than $117,000 a year and growing, according to the Vornado website. Some features, Springfield and surrounding area residents should expect, include a multi-screen cinema, a new main entrance with valet parking, a health club, 700-seat…

Tropical Smoothie to Open by Early June

The shop is currently finalizing county inspections.

Tropical Smoothie at Landsdowne Centre in Kingstowne is currently finalizing county inspections in preparation for its opening in late May or early June. The space still has a "coming soon" sign on the windows. Don Woodley, commercial leasing agent with A.J. Dwoskins & Associates, Inc. said Tropical Smoothie is scheduled to open by early June at the latest. Woodley said the permits and inspections process in Fairfax County is very long and time consuming. It's also inconvenient for the owners of any small business considering they still have to pay to lease the space while preparing to open, he noted. Tropical Smoothie will be located in a 1,400 sq. ft. space and will join the Metropolitan Fine Arts Center, Blimpie, and Red Hot & Blue BBQ …
