DESCRIPTION:On Thursday\, November 15 and Friday\, November 16\, the seve
nth-graders of Burgundy Farm Country Day School will perform Haroun and
the Sea of Stories\, a mythological fantasy that combines an exciting ad
venture story with hilarious physical theatre. Based on Salman Rushdie&r
squo\;s children&rsquo\;s book of the same name\, Haroun emphasizes free
dom of speech and the importance of storytellers throughout history.\n&l
 dquo\;We become the stories that we tell\,&rdquo\; says Burgundy&rsquo\;
s Performing Arts Director Deborah Ives. &ldquo\;Storytelling is a tool
that we&rsquo\;ve used for generations to share and shape what&rsquo\;s
important to us\, and the words we use have great\, great power. Haroun
demonstrates how with words we can hurt\, heal\, wound or lift. The stud
ents have embraced this concept and are celebrating their own opportunit
y to tell their story on the stage.&rdquo\;&nbsp\;\nThe student performe
rs read Haroun in its novel form as sixth-graders and were so excited by
the material that they suggested the play to Ives as their 7th Grade pr
oduction. Under Ives&rsquo\; direction\, they have personalized the perf
ormance\, making slight modifications to the script\, rotating multiple
student actors in the lead roles\, and adding two student-written raps t
o a story that easily lends itself to music and already features a robus
 t soundtrack.\nThe performance is family-friendly\, and tickets are $5 a
 t the door.
