Comedy Night, a Reggae Concert and the Arlington County Fair
Here are some local events you should know about for Aug. 9.
Let's get your weekend started off right. Patch has rounded up some local events you may be interested in for Aug. 9.
Night of Comedy. Have a few laughs at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. Howard G will perform standup comedy starting at 7 p.m. Friday. Howard G is best known for his role in the HBO series The Wire and has performed standup for Showtime At The Apollo Russell Simmons’s HBO Def Comedy Jam and BET's ComicView.
Barbershop chorus The Alexandria Harmonizers perform in Market Square in front of Alexandria’s City Hall from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Free.
Pick up some flowers, crafts, baked goods and more at the new market in Hollin Hall beginning at noon. The market is located at 1909 Windmill Lane at Mount Vernon Unitarian Church near Fort Hunt Road and Sherwood Hall Lane. Free.
The 2013 Arlington County Fair opened Wednesday, with outdoor rides, food vendors and piglet races the main draws on its first night. The fair is held at and around the Thomas Jefferson Community Center at 3501 Second St. S. and runs through Sunday.
It’s Reggae Night at Carter Barron Amphitheatre featuring bands the Archives, Image Band and Strykers Posse. The park gates open at 7 p.m. and the show begins at 7:30 p.m.Free. Carter Barron is located at 16th Street and Colorado Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. For more information, call 202-426-0486.
