Please help our 1,000 low-income kids be ready to succeed Sept. 8 for the Fall School Year!

Help our 1,000 low-income kids be ready to succeed Sept. 8 for the Fall School Year!

The new school year starts Sept. 8 -- and UCM’s annual Back to School Campaign is ready for your donations! We rely on community donations for new backpacks and financial gifts that will outfit one of many local students whose families are struggling to make ends meet.

For our campaign flyer (pdf), click here.

Many thanks for the backpacks, supplies, and funds that are already coming in and to the organizations who are hosting collection drives -- including Anitoch Baptist Churc, Calvary Presbyterian, Good Shepherd Catholic Church VBS, Kol Ami Jewish Congregation, Mount Vernon United Methodist, Plymouth Haven Baptist Church, and South Meadows Condominium Association.

Contact Susan Johnson, program coordinator, with questions at susan.johnson@ucmagency.org. We would be happy to customize a flyer for your group’s collection drive and to help publicize your group’s collections drive, too!

Here’s how you can help:

Host a Collection Drive. Collect backpacks or funds to purchase school supplies.

Donate Funds to UCM. Donate now online and designate “School.” $20 will outfit one child with supplies to fill a backpack; $40 will provide a child with both a backpack and supplies. You can also mail a check payable to UCM at 7511 Fordson Rd., Alexandria VA 22306.

Donate Backpacks. Purchase new backpacks from the store of your choice -- or shop online at our UCM Back to School Amazon Wish List.

Donations are needed no later than Friday, Aug. 7 at UCM at 7511 Fordson Rd., Alexandria VA 22306.
