Fault on Dominion Power Line Causes Outages Tuesday Night in Virginia Hills Area

Dominion said about 1,800 customers were without power when a piece of equipment failed.

An estimated 1,800 Dominion customers were without power Tuesday night when a piece of equipment on the power line malfunctioned in the Virginia Hills area. Dominion's Le-Ha Anderson said customers were notified around 9:30 p.m. about the incident.

Virginia Hills is roughly bounded by the community of Wilton Woods, Telegraph Road, Lee District Park, and South Kings Highway.  It belongs to Fairfax County's Lee District.

At the time of the incident, Dominion was unsure of the cause of the outage. Readers on Kingstowne Patch's Facebook page described hearing a noise like an explosion. Anderson explained that when there is a fault on the power line, there's a loud popping sound, which is probably what residents heard during the incident.
