Kids Sending Smiles Helps Oklahoma Victims on Memorial Day

Local elementary school students raise money for victims of last week's tornado.

Members of Kids Sending Smiles (KSS) — a non-profit organization founded and run by elementary school girls in Northern Virginia — spent their Memorial Day raising money to help victims of the Moore, OK, tornado.

The kids organized a bake sale and lemonade stand where they raised $121 for Oklahoma victims. KSS is donating the money to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, which is gathering water, food and other supplies needed by victims of last week's tragedy. KSS members also made cards to cheer up the victims.

Previously, KSS helped raise money to help fund a service dog for a local toddler who experiences severe epilepsy. Each month, the members of KSS choose a project in which they dedicate their time to fundraise or volunteer.
