Library Lending: 'The Unforgiving Minute' and More

Our new weekly feature has a few good books to put on your reading list.

Looking for a good summer read? We've got a few titles here that local Rose Hill residents have been enjoying, and you can check them out at the  on Rose Hill Drive. The staff is friendly and might even recommend other books you may enjoy reading as well. You can call them at 703-971-0010.

1. The Unforgiving Minute by Craig Mullaney is a coming of age memoir, describing what it takes to become a leader in American society and that some of that learning occurs not only in the classroom, but also through life experiences that often happen in a moment.

2. Born to Run by Christopher McDougall is a fast-paced adventure about a tribe of peace-loving people, the Tarahumara who run 50, 60, 70 miles at a time and actually love doing it!  They don't get hurt and they don't ever seem to get tired.  A great story about how to embrace life and discover true joy while rediscovering the simple pleasures of being part of nature and letting your body do what it was born to do.

5. Little Princes: One Man's Promise to Bring Home the Lost Children of Nepal by Connor Grennan. This is an ALL FAIRFAX READS book. The beauty of this book is partly the fact that it is a memoir. And, according to the New York Journal of Books, "...it is also more than that. I defy you to not be inspired or moved by this saga."

The Fairfax County Public Library Summer Reading Program encourages children and teens to read for pleasure during summer vacation. It is held in cooperation with the Fairfax County Public School system and runs from June 21 through September 3. There’s still plenty of summer left to participate!
