The Bean Trees: A story about a young girl, Taylor Greer, who “grew up poor in rural Kentucky with the goals of avoiding pregnancy and getting away. But when she heads west with high hopes and a barely functional car, she meets the human condition head-on. By the time Taylor arrives in Tucson, Arizona, she has acquired a completely unexpected child, a three-year-old American Indian girl named Turtle, and must somehow come to terms with both motherhood and the necessity for putting down roots.” Distributed by Syndetic Solutions, Inc.

Pigs in Heaven: Taylor Greer struggles to officially adopt the little Cherokee Indian girl who was abandoned into her care two years previously.

Animal, Vegetable, Miracle: This is an electronic book. It’s an enthusiastic (though some might say a bit preachy, at times) account of a year in which [Kingsolver’s] family deliberately fed themselves on products grown close to home, and what we learned from the experience.

Poisonwood Bible: The story of a Baptist Missionary who heads to the Congo with his wife and four young daughters to bring the word of God to a remote village people.
