Local Residents Participate in Chakaboom Fitness Music Video

The workout music video will officially premiere June 15.

Residents from the Kingstowne and Springfield areas who participate in a Chakaboom workout class at the Franconia Volunteer Fire Station recently participated in the new music video created for the class. About 260 local residents are signed up for the workout classes which are scheduled every day of the week except Wednesdays.

Chakaboom co-owner and instructor Roberson Magalhaes came up with the idea to create a song and video for Chakaboom Fitness — which is a workout routine of choreography influenced by the rhythm and culture of different countries. Magalhaes — who owns Chakaboom Fitness with Leo Lins — said Chakaboom is a fitness routine that everyone of all ages can enjoy.

For the music and video, Magalhaes spoke with Jason Cerda, an old friend who has been in the music industry for years. Roberson said he told Cerda about Chakaboom and how it has a positive effect on people who participate.

"I told him a story about how this changes people's lives and this is not just a music video or just a song," he said.

Cerda said after learning more about Chakaboom Fitness, it only took one attempt to come up with a song that both he and Roberson liked.

"He wanted a theme song for Chakaboom, and I have a music background," Cerda said. "He explained the vision he had for it and I visited a few classes. I was able to come up with a song in one take. Normally, I would record multiple versions of a song, but I liked it and Roberson liked it."

Roberson said about 80 percent of the people who are in the music video are local residents from Springfield, Kingstowne and Alexandria who participate in his class in Franconia.

"They first heard the song and they got the idea, and they were excited. They said, 'OK, let's do this,'" Roberson said."

The theme song for Chakaboom is currently available on iTunes, and the Chakaboom Fitness team will debut the music video at the release party at 7 p.m. June 15 at the Sunset Room in National Harbor.
