Metro Blue Line Service Restored After Gas Leak Near Eisenhower Avenue

Metro rail service Wednesday afternoon between King Street and Van Dorn stations is back to normal, after a gas leak temporarily disrupted service.

A contractor putting in a fence damaged a 2-inch steel riser pipe that connected to a meter, according to a Washington Gas spokesman. 

Rail service was disrupted between King Street and Van Dorn while repairs were being made. Passengers took buses to the stations for a time Wednesday afternoon.

Rail service was restored with single tracking between Braddock Road and Van Dorn Street with delays in both directions before service was back to normal a Metro spokeswoman said.

The gas leak was located near the Alexandria metro rail yard, a WMATA spokesman said. The location of the gas leak he said, was near 3400 Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria.
