UPDATE: Power Back On to 1,500-Plus in Rose Hill Area

UPDATE Thursday, 7 a.m.:

Power is back on at the more than 1,500 homes in the Rose Hill area that lost power Wednesday night. High winds were responsible for power getting knocked out across Northern Virginia. A Dominion Power map Thursday morning shows that only seven homes are without power.

Thursday morning, more than 4,000 homes in Fairfax County were without power; Wednesday night, the number was more than 40,000.

High winds that likely downed trees, knocked out power Wednesday night to more than 1,500 homes in the Rose Hill area of Fairfax County. The area is under a Wind Advisory from the National Weather Service with gusts forecast up to 50 MPH.

A Dominion Power outage map, at 11:45 p.m., showed 1,558 homes without power near the Ridgeview Park neighborhood. The outage boundaries were inside a triangle, with boundaries of Telegraph Road, Franconia Road and Rose Hill Road.

In all Wednesday night, 34,111 homes in Fairfax County were without power, 42,876 in Northern Virginia, just before midnight Wednesday.

The estimated time the power would be back on in Rose Hill was not available on the Dominion site. The problem cited for the outage was "circuit out."

The National Weather Service issued the Wind Advisory that started Wednesday at 6 p.m. and is expected to be lifted by Thursday at 11 a.m. Northern Virginia is seeing a huge dip in temperatures. Wednesday's highs were near 70 degrees. The high Thursday is expected to be 36 degrees.
