Springfield Whole Foods Market located at 8402 Old Keene Mill Road will have its quarterly 5 Percent Day on June 19.
The store has selected the Friends of Huntley Meadows Park to participate in the event, and the store will donate 5 percent of its proceeds from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. to the Friends of Huntley Meadows Park.
The Friends of Huntley Meadows Park is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises money for environmental education and resource projects at Huntley Meadows Park. From noon to 3 p.m., staff members from the park will lead activities for kids at the store. Kids are invited to participate in arts and craft to create paper snake mobiles and owl puppers. Kids will also receive a goodie bag to take home. Whole Foods will also provide fun foods for the kids such as birdseed cookies and ladybug crackers.
Shoppers will also have the opportunity to learn more about the educational programs offered in the nature center and new outdoor classroom, the boardwalk made from recycled plastic milk cartons, and the current wetland restoration project.
The 5 Percent Day is one of the ways Whole Foods Market gives back to the local community. The store partners with a local non-profit organization once each quarter to raise money and awareness for that partner. The Friends of Huntley Meadows Park contributes about $25,000 to the park each year.
