NWS Issues Tornado Watch for Northern Virginia Until 9 PM

UPDATE, 3 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch, at 3 p.m. today, for Northern Virginia.

The watch is in effect until 9 p.m.

The watch includes Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties as well as the cities of Alexandria, Falls Church and Manassas Park.

The National Weather Service notes that showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly after 3 p.m. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain, according to the forecast. 

The chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
