Water Team Required for a Rescue Near Newington Road

A swift water team was required for a water rescue early Friday morning according to an alert issued around 5:30 a.m.

A vehicle was reportedly in high water on Newington Road and Cinder Bed Road. The rescue team found that the driver of the vehicle was on top of the car due to the weather conditions.

Just before 6 a.m. Friday, The National Weather Service announced that the Fairfax County area may receive between 2-4 inches of rain in the next 3-4 hours. A Flash Flood Watch is currently in effect until Friday evening. A River Watch Alert was also issued this morning, warning of a chance of significant street flooding and possible structural flooding due to the storm.

Residents are encouraged to move their vehicles to high elevations and remove valuable items from their basements.
