Good Friday Services/The Seven Last Words, Noon & 7:30 PM

Franconia United Methodist Church, 6037 Franconia Rd, Alexandria, invites you to our Good Friday Service/The Seven Last Words, on Apr 22 at Noon and 7:30 PM.  Services based on the seven last words (phrases) of Jesus from the cross are traditionally developed from harmonies of the Gospel passion narratives. Also known as the Devotion of the Three Hours (from Noon on Friday to 3:00 p.m., to remember Christ’s hours on the cross), it was first conducted by a Jesuit priest in Peru in the eighteenth century as a service of scripture readings with prayers and hymns interspersed. Over the years it has become popular in Protestant circles in England and North America. The common order of the readings is presented here. Visuals, music, drama, or liturgical dance will be employed imaginatively.  We are located at the corner of Beulah and Franconia, next to the Franconia Elementary School, convenient to the Fairfax Connector routes 231, 232, and 310.  Our church is handicapped accessible, and assisted listening devices are available.  Contact us at 703 971-5151 or admin@franconiaumc.org, and http://www.franconiaumc.org.
