Electrical Short Causes 'Small Explosion' at Springfield Holiday Inn Express

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Holiday Inn Express located at 6401 Brandon Avenue in Springfield.

When firefighters arrived around 1:40 p.m., they found an electrical shortage in the electrical room, said Battalion Chief Thomas Graling.

"An electrical short in the building caused a small explosion," he said.

Guests at the hotel were evacuated. Graling said there were no injuries at the time of the incident. Around 2 p.m., Graling said they were waiting for assistance from Virginia Power.
