Mild Winter Quadruples Business at Greendale Golf Course

In December and January, course saw 2,591 total rounds played

This winter’s mild weather is translating into great business for , where golfers played four times as many rounds as this time last year.

According to Matthew Kaiser, a spokesman for the Fairfax County Park Authority, 1,485 rounds of golf were played in December 2011, and 1,106 were played in January 2012.

That’s a dramatic increase from December 2010 and January 2011, when 358 and 441 rounds were played, respectively.

Last Tuesday, Jan. 31, , golfers played 120 rounds, said David Sniffen, who maintains the starting times at Greendale.

Sniffen told Patch that the course has been rather wet this year, but it’s not preventing players from hitting the course the way last year’s snow did.

“The Fairfax County Park Authority—and Greendale especially—are enjoying this unseasonably warm weather,” Kaiser said. Greendale is one of eight county park courses.
