Fiona's Irish Pub Gets Building Permit

Kingstowne awaits its new Irish restaurant and pub, taking the place of King Street Blues.

It only took 142 days, but Fiona's Irish Pub finally has its building permit, issued on Tuesday.

The owner of the restaurant, Martin White, posted a copy of the permit to the restaurant's Facebook page and asked readers to guess how long it took to get the permit.

He promised whoever guessed the correct number of days a free dinner for two at the restaurant and pub when it opens. A reader named Mary guessed correctly.

Meanwhile, Kingstowne awaits its new Irish restaurant and pub. The restaurant will replace King Street Blues, at 5810 Kingstowne Centre, which closed its doors in January.

There are two other King Street Blues locations – one in Old Town Alexandria and another in Crystal City.

Fiona's Irish Pub was originally hoping for a March opening.

White was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. White, who has owned several restaurants in the area, became a U.S. citizen on St. Patrick's Day in 1996. He was the grand marshal of the St. Patrick's Day parade in Old Town Alexandria.
