Free Pancakes at IHOP for Charity

Pancakes will be given away from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday

If you’re in the mood for some fluffy,  free pancakes, you want to head on over to International House of Pancakes Tuesday.

From 7 a.m. until 10 p.m., the restaurant chain is gifting customers with a free short stack and giving them the opportunity to give back to the National Capital Area Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

If you are an IHOP regular, you may have already noticed the paper icons on the wall boasting the name of individuals and families who have donated to the LLS.  The Kingstowne IHOP at 6206 Inter Parcel Road is nearly wallpapered with them.

This year, 62 IHOP restaurants in the Virginia, Maryland and D.C. region have decided to participate in the National Pancake Day event.  In 2010, the event raised $76,000 for research and services in the local area alone.

“It’s this great partnership that we have with them,” said Lisa Pagano, Senior Marketing Manager for the National Capital Area Chapter.  “It helps us raise money for blood cancer research while also raising awareness.”

During tomorrow’s event, volunteers will be on hand at every single participating restaurant all day to hand out information, distribute literature and answer any questions people may have.

“Blood cancers affect so many people," Pagano said. “Every four minutes someone will be diagnosed.”

Where else will your philanthropic efforts also get you a free breakfast?

“We would love for everyone to come out and enjoy some pancakes,” she laughed.
