“It would not open this year or next year because our construction schedule is already full,” said Jo Natali, Wegmans spokeswoman. “We won’t firm anything up until full site plan approval is received.”

Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay said that he has received many inquiries from residents about the opening of Wegmans.

“I’ve heard from many in the community that they already have their shopping lists written for when Wegmans opens in 2013,” said McKay.  “The addition of the Hilltop Village Center, which Wegmans will anchor, comes at a great time for our community. One of the most common questions I hear about when I’m out is when will the Wegmans open. I’ll continue to help the owners of the site in making sure this becomes a reality as soon as possible.”

Mount Vernon Patch interviewed shoppers at a local Safeway to see what they thought of Wegmans.

“I think it’d be nice to have a Wegmans. I’m excited about it,” said Martha Allen of Mount Vernon, who said that Safeway was “too dark and drab.”

“To walk in one that’s light and bright will be nice,” she said.
