Dominion Restores Power to 1,000 Homes After Storm

Storm, high winds Tuesday knocked out power.

UPDATE (Wednesday, 6:30 a.m.) As of Wednesday morning, Dominion Power has restored power to about 1,000 homes affected by Tuesday's storm, according to its outage map.

UPDATE 8 p.m.: Just over 700 Dominion Power customers are still without power in Fairfax County after a storm hit the area Tuesday afternoon around 3 p.m., according to an outage map provided by Dominion Power.

Some of those without power at 8 p.m. are in Fort Hunt, Rose Hill, Franconia and Mount Vernon.

Parts of southern Fairfax County in Fort Hunt, Hybla Valley and Rose Hill have been without power all day Tuesday, according to Dominion Virginia Power.

"We have 757 customers who have lost power in the Woodlawn Terrace and Woodlawn Trails area," said Le-Ha Anderson, a Dominion spokeswoman, in an email to Patch. "Crews are enroute. We expect to have power restored between 5 – 7 p.m."

A Dominion outage map near Telegraph Road shows more than 1,000 homes without power.

WUSA9 reported earlier Tuesday that the outage was caused by a tree limb that fell on the power lines. Wind gusts earlier in the day preceded a storm system sweeping through the area Tuesday afternoon.

Dominion Power is expecting many outages throughout the area because of high winds and storms hitting Northern Virginia.

The Fairfax County Police Department reported that there are also a few traffic lights out in the Mount Vernon area of the county, according to WUSA9.

Most of the intersections affected by the traffic light outages are along Route 1 and include Richmond Highway at Southgate Drive, Richmond Highway at Memorial Street and Richmond Highway and Beacon Hill Road.
