NerdWallet: Alexandria No. 8 Place in Virginia for Job Seekers

The online consumer resource placed Leesburg as No. 1, followed by Vienna and Herndon.

Need a job? Then Alexandria is one of 10 places to be in Virginia, according to consumer resource website NerdWallet.

Alexandria ranked No. 8 for job seekers, with an unemployment rate of 4.6 percent compared with the 7.3 percent national average, according to the website. The top five was Leesburg, Vienna, Herndon, Arlington and Manassas.

How did NerdWallet come up with its list? Here are the criteria listed with the report.

  1. Is the city growing? We assessed population growth of those 16 and over to ensure that the city is attracting workers.
  2. Do people earn high salaries? We included median household income in the calculation.
  3. Are most people employed? We looked at the unemployment rate.
