Permit Delays Temporarily Stall Lewin Park Development

Destruction of homes could start at end of March.

The at Franconia-Springfield Parkway and Beulah could be demolished as soon as the end of March, but delays in getting permits are holding up construction, the Washington Business Journal reports. 

Developer Monument Realty bought 26 properties in the neighborhood in order to build a hotel and 750,000 square feet of office space. The developer needs permits before it can begin construction.

In the meantime, Lewin Park's properties are sitting boarded up. In December, Patch ran two slideshows of the abandoned neighborhood that . Lewin Park also has the leftover items of past residents, including and a bust of Elvis.
