Supervisors Move to Expedite Changes to Wegmans Site

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Tuesday took action to speed up the approval of proposed changes to the Hilltop Village Center, the future site of Kingstowne's Wegmans.

Developers proposed changes that would add a mezzanine to one of the buildings at the shopping center and changing the landscape buffer behind Wegmans to accomodate additional utilities and the widening of Telegraph Road.

The changes would also add some new, permitted secondary uses to the site that could allow different businesses to open there than were originally permitted. The amended secondary uses would allow health clubs, child care centers, fast food restaurants, colleges or universities, special education schools, convenience stores and/or veterinary hospitals to open in the complex.

"The Applicant proposes minor modifications that do not change the overall quality of an attractive, convenient, community-serving development," according to the board matter, which was submitted by Lee District Supervisor Jeff McKay (D). 

McKay's board matter speeds up consideration of the amendment changes, including a request to schedule a public hearing about the changes before the supervisors recess at the end of July. 

Hilltop Village Center, located by the intersection of Telegraph Road and Beulah Street, will besides Wegmans, including a bar, a hamburger restaurant, a Massage Envy and a Panda Express. in February; the official groundbreaking was in early April.
