Virginia Hosts Sales Tax Holiday for Emergency Equipment

Radios and generators among exempted items

Virginia offers a sale tax holiday in late May for goods designed to help residents prepare for hurricanes and other emergency situations.

Items that are sold tax-free during this period include artificial ice, bottled water, many kinds of batteries, fire extinguishers and self-powered radios that sell for less than $60. Generators selling for less than $1,000 are also tax-exempt. Click here for a full list of approved items from the state.

The holiday runs from Wednesday, May 25 through Tuesday, May 31. The governor has also declared May 22 through May 28 Hurricane Preparedness Week.
