  2. Serena Williams continues her march forward as she advances to the quarterfinals round of the US Open.  America’s men’s hopeful Mardy Fish was knocked out in round 4 by Frenchman Joe-Wilifried Tsonga. Tsonga will now face Roger Federer in the quarterfinals.  Also advancing were the World-seeded No. 1 women’s and men’s players, Caroline Wozniacki and Novak Djokovic.
  3. On this day in 1997 some 2.5 billion people watched as the funeral for Diana, Princess of Wales, was broadcast live from London. Just a week earlier, on August 31, Princess Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris. She was 36 years old.
  4. Did you read some great books over the summer?  Join us for food and good discussion at the Adult Summer Reading Celebration at Pohick Regional Library from 7:00 p.m.-8:30 p.m. tonight.
