Gary Johnson Amuses at GOP Debate

- During his second GOP debate on Thursday night, former New Mexico Gary Johnson (R) got the crowd laughing with a dig at President Barack Obama's economic policy.
- Sunday, Sep. 25 is the Olde Towne Dogge Walke beginning at 9 a.m. Enjoy a 1.5 mile jaunt with your pet. All proceeds benefit the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria.
- “Homework Hangout” at Edison High School starts on Saturday, Sep. 24, 2011 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Career Center. All students who would like academic support are welcome. Community service hours can be earned for student volunteer tutors. Contact Brenda Page-Murphy for more information.
- States that agree to overhaul underperforming schools and adopt stricter teacher evaluation systems will be granted a waiver from the 'No Child Left Behind' law. The New York Times reports President Obama said, “To help states, districts and schools that are ready to move forward with education reform, our administration will provide flexibility from the law in exchange for a real commitment to undertake change.”
