Edison High School Football Tonight

White House cornerstone laid, Navy vet challenges federal definition of marriage.

  1. Today the high will be 70 degrees. Expect scattered rain showers in the morning that will likely turn into thunderstorms by the afternoon.
  2. Today in 1792, the cornerstone for the White House was laid. President John Adams would become the first president to reside in the executive mansion. The year was 1800.
  3. Tonight, the Freshman and JV Football Teams of Edison High School face off against JEB Stuart at Edison. The freshman game is at 5:45 p.m. and the JV game begins at 7 p.m.
  4. Herman Cain’s 9-9-9 plan, a flat 9 percent individual income tax rate, a 9 percent corporate tax rate and a 9 percent national sales tax, is getting more press these days and polls show Cain and Mitt Romney are tied. The New York Times reports that Mr. Cain, a math major in college, asked for a “regression analysis” that would allow the government to eliminate all existing taxes, including those on capital gains and estates, and collect the same revenue from just three streams. “The number came up to be 9 percent,” Cain said. “And that’s how we came up with 9-9-9.”
  5. A disabled Navy veteran from Connecticut says the government denied her veterans benefits because she is married to a woman. She is challenging the constitutionality of two federal laws that define marriage as being between opposite-sex partners.
