Mahalia Jackson's celebration, Edison pyramid chorus.

Here are five things we thought our readers would be interested to know today. If you have an event you'd like for us to feature, please submit it in the comments section below and check back tomorrow to see if your event made the list.

  1. Expect a mix of sun and clouds this morning with a 30 percent chance of rain and some thunder in the afternoon. The high will be 70 degrees.
  2. Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney appeared at 9:30 a.m. today at the Fairfax Republican Committee headquarters, 4246 Chain Bridge Rd., with Gov. Robert McDonnell and Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling as part of a broad GOP push to support the party’s state legislative candidates. We will have a story this afternoon.
  3. Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajak turns 65 today.
  4. Mark your calendar! Come to the Pyramid Concert tomorrow, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. at Edison High School. Choruses from Edison High School, Twain Middle School, and our feeder elementary schools will perform by themselves and as a mass chorus of over 300 voices.
  5. You’re invited to Mahalia Jackon’s 100th birthday celebration. A world-renowned Gospel singer and civil rights activist, the celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. at Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Library, 5005 Duke St.
