This Week's Weather: Chance for Freezing Rain Tuesday Morning

Mostly sunny week, chance for snow Thursday night.

Most of the week's forecast shows sunny skies, according to the NWS. The average high this time of year for Northern Virginia is about 47 degrees.

Developing Tuesday morning: A 70 percent chance of freezing rain and sleet for Northern Virginia, according to the National Weather Service. The weather service predicts that the sleet could hit before 9 a.m., just in time to snarl the morning commute after a three-day weekend.

The Weather Channel's prediction is 80 percent chance of rain Tuesday morning with no mention of freezing rain or sleet.

The rest of Tuesday looks cloudy, with winds up to 15 MPH and temperatures climbing to 51 degrees.

Skies clear and temperatures take a dip on Wednesday with a high of 37 degrees and probably making it feel even chillier: winds up to 22 MPH.

Thursday is looking good, sunny skies with warmer temperatures, a high of 42 degrees and less wind. Thursday night, clouds roll in and forecasters say Northern Virginia will see a 30 percent chance of snow. (The Weather Channel gives it a 60 percent chance and is calling for a wintry mix, rather than snow, into Friday.)

Friday's forecast includes a 40 percent chance of rain, freezing rain and sleet, with a high of 41 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

For Saturday and Sunday, forecasters predict temperatures will be in the 40s with clouds Saturday and sun on Sunday.
