Today is International Literacy Day

Fact checking last night's GOP debate, President Obama set to talk jobs.

  1. Today promises the same weather we’ve had all week. Expect rain off and on all day, with scattered thunderstorms and a high of 78 degrees.
  2. Last night was the first GOP presidential nomination debate in which the entire field of candidates participated. The stage for the Republican candidate appears to be getting smaller, with Rick Perry and Mitt Romney taking up most of the room. A strong debate that tried to highlight platform differences, not everyone got all their details exactly right.
  3. Tonight President Obama will address a nationally televised joint session of Congress. The topic is job creation in America. “A Washington Post-ABC News poll published this week found that 60 percent of those surveyed disapprove of the way Obama has managed the economy and that only 43 percent approve of the job he is doing overall. That is the lowest rating of his presidency,” according to the Washington Post
  4. Today is International Literacy Day. Celebrated since 1965, when it was established by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), this event focuses on worldwide literacy needs.
  5. On this day in 1986, The Oprah Winfrey Show was broadcast on national television for the first time. By 2008, the Oprah Winfrey Show had an estimated viewing audience of 46 million people and was broadcast in 134 countries.
