Sunset Celebration at Mount Vernon
- Where: George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Alexandria
- When: Friday, May 25 through Sunday, May 27 from 6 – 9 p.m.
- Why Go: Enjoy an evening on the grounds of Mount Vernon with music, dancing, games, and wagon rides. Food and wine will be available for purchase.
- Price: Adults $18; Children ages 6 – 11 $12; 5 and under are free

- Where: John Calvin Presbyterian Church, Annandale
- When: Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m.
- Why Go: KMT Musical Theater is made up of local teens, and this musical is based on the 2001 movie featuring Elle Woods’ comedic journey through law school.
- Price: Adults $12; Kids 12 and Under $6
- Where: Burke Community Church, Burke
- When: Friday, May 25 and Saturday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m.
- Why Go: The Northern Virginia Players are comprised of DC area home-schooled students, and their spring production is based on the Disney animated film Mulan. A percentage of the Memorial Day weekend proceeds will go to the Wounded Warrior Project.
- Price: Tickets at the door are $12
- Where: Cranford United Methodist Church, Lorton
- When: Saturday, May 26 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
- Why Go: Celebrate strawberries and spring at this annual festival. A BBQ lunch will be available for purchase, as well as baked goods and raffle tickets.
- Price: Admission is FREE

- Where: The Lyceum, Alexandria
- When: Saturday, May 26 at 8 p.m.
- Why Go: This one-woman show stars acclaimed actress Deborah Jean Templin as she portrays nine different women who sailed on the RMS Titanic’s maiden voyage. Light refreshments will be served at a reception following the performance.
- Price: Tickets are $35
Alexandria Running Festival: Half Marathon, 5K, and Kids’ 1K Fun Run
- Where: Eisenhower Avenue – Holmes Run and Ben Brenman Park Area, Alexandria
- When: Sunday, May 27 – activities begin at 6 a.m.
- Why Go: Stay for the light refreshments and awards ceremony following the races. Proceeds to benefit Marathon Charity Corporation’s various causes.
- Price: Half Marathon $80 - $90; 5K $40 - $50; Kids’ 1K $1 - $2
- Where: Rolling Valley Elementary School, Springfield
- When: Monday, May 28 at 8 a.m.
- Why Go: Walk or run in honor of fallen military personnel this Memorial Day. Routes shorter than 5K are available.
- Price: FREE
35th Annual Memorial Day Jazz Festival
- Where: Waterfront Park, Alexandria
- When: Monday, May 28 from 1 – 6 p.m.
- Why Go: Featuring a wide range of jazz styles with the Navy Band Commodores, Marcus Johnson, Barbara Martin Trio featuring Liz Barnes, and Al Williams.
- Price: FREE

- City of Alexandria Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Mount Vernon RECenter, Alexandria. Monday, May 28 at 11 a.m.

- Take 25 for Child Safety at Beatley Central Library, Alexandria. Friday, May 25 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. FREE.
- Friday Friends Book Club discusses Read the Jacket by Andrew Clements at Burke Centre Library, Burke. Friday, May 25 at 4 p.m. For ages 8 – 12. FREE – registration required.
Nature Highlights:
- Campground Wildlife at Pohick Bay Regional Park, Lorton. Friday, May 25 at 7 p.m. FREE – registration required.
- Fresh Water Ecology at Mason Neck State Park, Lorton. Saturday, May 26 at Noon. Weekend parking fee is $4 per vehicle.
- Sunday Morning Bird Walk at Belle Haven Park and Marina, Alexandria. Sunday, May 27 at 8 a.m. FREE.
- Kayak Tour at Pohick Bay Regional Park, Lorton. Sunday, May 27 from 8 a.m. – Noon. For ages 8 and up. $30 per person – reservations required.
- Snake and Turtle Feeding at Hidden Oaks Nature Center, Annandale. Sunday, May 27 at 2:30 p.m. For ages 4 and up. $5 - $7 per person – registration required.
