Fairfax County Police officers responding to a call Tuesday afternoon shot a man in Kingstowne after an altercation.

A 911 call came in at about 4 p.m. Tuesday about a possible suicide threat, according to Officer Don Gotthardt, public information officer for Fairfax County Police, who was on the scene Tuesday night at the 6600 block of Thurlton Drive in Kingstowne.

Thurlton Drive is located just off Lake Village Drive in Kingstowne.

According to an FCPD news release, at least one officer performed CPR on the 37-year-old suspect until Fairfax County Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene.

Firefighters Find Body While Fighting Brush Fire in Chantilly

Firefighters responding to a brush fire Sunday in Chantilly were surprised to find the body of an adult male near Fairfax County Parkway and Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue reported Monday.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to an outside fire, Sunday, just after noon, at 12:05 p.m., at Lee-Jackson Memorial Highway and the Fairfax County Parkway in Chantilly, according to a news release.

Lyrid Meteor Shower 2013 Peak: Where and When to Watch

The Lyrid meteor shower is ready to make its 2013 debut in the skies above Burke next week, and of all the year’s many shows in the heavens, this is one to catch.

The skies have been largely empty of visible meteor showers since the Quadrantids of early January, but the shooting stars of the Lyrids have been a reliable spectacle for, oh, 2,600 years or so.

No Injuries in Lorton Town House Fire

Three adults and four children were displaced, but not injured, Monday after an early morning townhouse fire on Potters Hill Circle in Lorton.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at 6:46 a.m., and arrived four minutes later to find the garage level of the three-story town home engulfed in smoke.

Police: Woman Robbed by Juvenile in Mount Vernon

ROBBERY, 3600 block of Albee Lane, 4/8/13, 11:35 p.m. A 44-year-old was retrieving her cell phone from her vehicle when a juvenile brandished a knife and demanded her purse. The victim fled and was not injured. Several officers, the helicopter, and a K-9 team searched for the suspect. The 13-year-old suspect was located and charged with armed robbery.

Hearing Date Set for Annandale Teacher Charged with Assaulting Student

A court hearing date has been set for the Annandale High School (AHS) teacher charged with assaulting an AHS student.

According to Fairfax County General District Court records, Anne Perry, 64, of Springfield, will appear in court May 15 at 9:30 a.m. Perry was charged April 2 with one misdemeanor count of assault for a March 12 incident involving a student at the school.

Construction on Insight Huntington Metro Begins

Construction has begun on the Insight Huntington Metro project located at North Kings Highway and School Street in Alexandria.

According to the Southeast Fairfax Development Corporation (SFDC), Insight Property Group began construction in February on the apartment building on a 3.38-acre site. The site was re-planned as part of the Comprehensive Plan amendment for the Penn Daw area approved in April 2012. The estimated total project cost is $54 million.

NCAA March Madness 2013: What Time is the Championship Game?

March Madness comes to an end Monday night with Michigan and Louisville vying for the NCAA Championship.

The game begins at 9:23 p.m., and the men's championship game will be televised by CBS.

The Vegas line for the championship gives Louisville a 4-point edge.
