UCM Back to School Drive.... now to July 31!

Help our Kids Succeed in School...

Deadline July 31!

Despite the heat of summer, UCM's annual Back to School Program is in full swing!  Our goal is to outfit 1,000 low-income students, grades K-12, for the 2013/14 school year.  Click here for details...

Due to our unique community partnership, UCM can purchase school supplies at deep discounts, so that a $10 donation buys about $40 worth of supplies to fill a backpack. The deadline to get monetary donations and new backpacks to UCM's main office is Wednesday, July 31.

Here's how you can help:

  • Host a collection drive. Collect backpacks or funds to purchase school supplies. Donations can be dropped off at UCM. Click here to download our customizable flyer (ms word). Let us know about your donation drive, and we'll help publicize it! Send an email to Marcos at marcos.castillo@ucmagency.org.
  • Donate Funds. A gift of just $35 will outfit one child with a new backpack and school supplies. Be sure to designate for "Back to School."  Mail your check to UCM or drop it off weekdays, 9 am to 5:30 pm. Or even faster, donate online by credit card or check via www.ucmagency.org.

United Community Ministries (www.ucmagency.org) is one of the largest providers of human services in Fairfax County, building strong families and strong communities.  UCM works on three levels to lift people out of poverty and isolation:

  • Immediate Help.  For families and individuals in crisis, UCM provides food, financial aid, and counseling.
  • Self-Sufficiency.  Services such as job training, full-day early care and learning, transitional housing, and health and parental education help move people toward sustainability.
  • Community Engagement.  UCM’s neighborhood centers, with after-school programs and leadership training, keep youth and families engaged in broader social networks.
